Welcome back! We are continuing our discussion on the works of C.S. Lewis, with particular emphasis on the following:

  • The importance of the rejuvenation of family
  • Connectedness of human existence
  • Forging identities, how it's important today, but not historically
  • You are a beloved child of God
    • This is the truth and starting point
  • Rick also introduces the writing of Rene Girard, Rene Girard (d. 2015), one of the most important religious writers of the last 50 years, whose insights resonate with both believers and non-believers. His most noteworthy contribution is what is termed the "Scapegoat Mechanism" (which we explain in the podcast as tension that builds and ultimately relieved by identifying a "scapegoat", whether that is a person or a group). Girard masterfully helps people see and understand the violence that is at the heart of society and in ourselves. Girard helps us see and accept that we all are sinners in need of God's grace.

Enjoy!
